Get it on your phone
Got It Covered runs in your phone's web browser. There's nothing to download from an app store.
- Go to app.gotitcovered.app.
- Tap Create an account, then enter your email and a password of at least 8 characters. Tick the box if you'd like occasional tips and news; it's optional.
- Tap Create account and open the link we email you. Setup starts straight away.
Put it on your home screen
Do this so it opens like a normal app. On iPhone you need it for notifications to work.
- iPhone: open it in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. Open it from your home screen and sign in again.
- Android: open it in Chrome, tap the three-dot menu, then Add to Home screen or Install app.
Forgotten your password? On the sign-in screen, enter your email and tap Forgotten your password?. Check your junk folder if the email doesn't arrive.
Set up your family
The first time you sign in, a short guided setup walks you through it. It takes about three minutes, and you can tap Skip for now on anything and fill it in later.
- You. Choose Two homes if the children move between parents' homes, or One home if you live together and share the running around. Then add your first name, how you're related to the children, what they call you and the other parent, and each child's first name.
- School. Add the school name and its start and finish times. If your children go to different schools, add each one.
- Pattern (two homes only). Pick the closest pattern, such as Split week, alternate weekends, Alternate weeks or 2-2-3, then tap any day to change who has them. Say whether this week is week 1 or week 2.
- School runs. For each weekday, choose who usually does the morning run and who collects after school. If a school or council taxi does some runs, add it here and say who meets it.
- Invite. Enter the other parent's email and tap Create invite link. See Invite the other parent.
Tap Finish and open Today. A Finish setting up checklist shows what's left for later; tap Hide when you're done with it.
Read Today
Today fills in by itself from your pattern, school runs and any changes. From top to bottom:
- Right now: who each child is with, where they are, and what happens next.
- Waiting for an answer: changes and swaps the other parent has suggested. Tap Accept or Decline.
- Journeys that need someone: any journey in the next week with nobody assigned. Tap one to sort it.
- Journeys today: who's driving, when to leave, each stop, and buttons to open the route in Google Maps or Apple Maps.
- A timeline for each child, with anything they need to bring.
- Tomorrow: a preview of the evening message.
Need to change something today? Tap Change today at the top.
Your usual pattern
The Schedule tab holds your normal fortnight (or week). One-off changes don't alter it, so you only set it up once.
- Main parent each day. Tap a day to choose who's responsible. The children sleep at that parent's home.
- Copy week 1. On week 2, tap Copy week 1 here, then change only the days that differ.
- Handover details. On a changeover day, choose whether responsibility passes when they arrive with the next parent or at school drop-off, and set a pick-up time for days without school.
- Different for one child? Use Showing to switch to one child and set their days separately.
- Journey schedules say who does repeating journeys, optionally between two dates, for example “School taxi does Thursday after school until Christmas”.
You never enter handovers. If Sunday night is with one parent and Monday morning with the other, Got It Covered spots the handover and shows it on Today and the calendar.
Kit, clubs and term dates
For things that happen every week, like PE kit on a Tuesday or dance club on a Thursday:
- Go to Schedule, find The week at a glance, and tap Add weekly item (or + on a day).
- Type what it is, or pick a quick option like PE kit, Library book or Swimming kit.
- Pick the child (nobody picked means everyone) and the days. Leave School days only ticked so it skips holidays.
- For a club, add a time, a place and anything to bring. Journeys to and from it are worked out for you.
Term dates and INSET days
Under School days on the same page, add each term's dates and any days with no school. School runs stop on those days. Each child follows their own school, so an INSET day at one school doesn't cancel the other child's run.
Change a day
Changes go on the Calendar. They apply to that date only and leave your usual pattern alone. The calendar opens on the month; tap 2 weeks for a closer view.
- Tap the day.
- To change one journey, tap it, then choose a person or a transport service. To change who has the children that day, tap Change the day. To add a party or appointment, tap Add event.
- Tap Save change if you've already agreed it, or Ask Mum (or whoever the other parent is) to send it to them to accept.
For a temporary arrangement, fill in Repeat weekly until. To put a day back, open it and tap Undo change. If you asked and change your mind, tap Withdraw.
Each day shows a coloured bar per child for the main parent, and small dots: Needs someone (a journey with nobody assigned), Changed (different from your usual pattern) and Requested (waiting for the other parent).
Swap days
To trade days rather than give one away, use a swap. You hand over some of your days and take some of theirs, and they accept or decline the whole swap at once.
- On the Calendar, tap one of the days and tap Swap days.
- Pick your days to hand over, then their days you'd have instead. Whole weekends are one tap.
- Add a note if it helps, for example “Work trip that weekend”, and tap Ask Mum to swap.
It appears under Waiting for an answer on their Today screen.
Places and travel times
Places (under More on a phone) lists your homes, schools and clubs. Add an address or postcode so the map buttons take you to the right door.
Under Travel times, put the typical minutes by car between places. Got It Covered uses them to work out when to leave and how long a round trip takes.
Keep your address private
On your own home, tick Hide this address from everyone else in the family. Only you can see it from then on; everyone else sees the home's name on the schedule, not where it is. Untick it to share it again.
The info bank
The Info bank keeps everything about the children in one place, so neither of you has to ask “what size shoes is he in now?”.
- It's grouped into Clothing, Health, School, Contacts, Routines and Notes, with a column for each child.
- Tap any value to change it. It saves when you tap away, and a Saved note confirms it.
- Every value shows who last changed it and when. Tap the clock icon to see its history.
- Sizes and medication ask Still right? after a few months. Tap it if nothing's changed.
- Need something else? Tap Add a field, for example “Swimming level”.
Health details are optional. Everyone in the family space can see them, so only add what the other adults need to care for the children.
The evening message
Each evening you get one message: who has the children tomorrow, your journeys and leave times, and what to pack. It comes at 7pm unless you change it.
- Tap your initials, or More, then Your account.
- Under Tomorrow message, choose the time under Send at.
- Tap Turn on notifications on this device and allow them when your phone asks.
- Tap Send a test now to check it works.
On iPhone, notifications only work once Got It Covered is on your home screen. See Get it on your phone.
See it in your calendar
Who has the children, events with kit lists and your journeys can show in Google Calendar, Apple Calendar or Outlook.
- Go to Your account and tap Create my calendar link.
- Tap Add to Apple Calendar or Add to Google Calendar. For Outlook, choose Add calendar, then Subscribe from web, and paste the link.
It isn't instant. Calendar apps check for changes every few hours, and Google can take up to a day. Got It Covered itself is always up to date.
Anyone with the link can see the schedule. If you share it by mistake, tap Reset link and add the new one.
Your account and plan
Every family gets 30 days free, with no card needed. One plan covers everyone in the family: both parents and anyone you invite.
To keep going, go to Your account and choose monthly or yearly under Plan, where the current prices are shown. If you choose during the free trial, you won't pay until it ends. If the trial ends without a plan, nothing is deleted: the family becomes view-only until a parent chooses one.
To change your card, switch plans, see invoices or cancel, tap Manage plan, card and invoices. You can cancel any time.
Emails from us
We always email you about your account, such as sign-in links and invites. Tips and news are optional: turn them on or off under Emails from us on Your account, or use the unsubscribe link in any of them.
Deleting your account
At the bottom of Your account, tap Delete my account…. It tells you exactly what will happen before you confirm. If you're the only parent in a family, that family and everything in it is deleted. If the other parent is still there, the family carries on for them and only you are removed.
